  • 2
  • 7
  • 32
  • 35

How to Win Fantasy 5

Winning a prize in the Fantasy 5 lottery is relatively easy compared to some of the other U.S. Lotteries available, thanks to its simplicity, regular draws and generous payouts.

When buying a ticket in Florida, players must pick five numbers from a pool of 1-36. There are four prize divisions (listed below) with differing odds. To win a prize for a specific division, you simply need to match the required amount of numbers in any order.

Florida Fantasy 5 Prize Divisions
Division Matched Numbers Odds of Winning Prize Amount Prize in a Rolldown
4 2 main numbers 1 in 8.39 Free Ticket Free Ticket
3 3 main numbers 1 in 81.07 $10.00 $18.00
2 4 main numbers 1 in 2,432.21 $107.00 $555.00
1 5 main numbers 1 in 376,992 $200,000* N/A**
The overall odds of winning any prize in Fantasy 5 are approx. 1 in 7.58.

*The jackpot is usually around $200,000. If there are multiple Division 1 winners, the top prize will be shared equally between them.
**If there are no Division 1 jackpot winners, the est. $200,000 prize is rolled down and shared between winners in Divisions 2 and 3.

For players betting on the game internationally, it’s likely that you will be able to bet on one to four selected balls, and not all five. Other markets are also available, such as odds and evens/draw sums.

How Fantasy 5 Works

Ticket sales close for Fantasy 5 at 10:40pm E.T every night of the week (and any tickets bought after this time are entered into the following day’s drawing).

From 11:15pm, the draw machine selects five numbers at random from 1-36. These make up the winning combination for that draw.

Lottery officials then calculate how many winning tickets there are at each division and publish the results along with the payouts.

If one or more players match the Division 1 prize (by matching all five numbers drawn), they win or split the Div. 1 prize pool equally between them. All lower division prizes are then paid out based on the table above.

If there are no Division 1 winners in a draw, the entire prize pool for that division is rolled down to Division 2, boosting prizes from the standard average of $107. Depending on the funds available, prizes will be boosted up to as much as $555 per winner. If excess funds are still available after the $555 limit is hit, the excess then rolls down and is shared between winners in the Division 3 tier, further boosting their winnings.

Players matching two numbers win a free ticket for a future draw, regardless of whether or not the Division 1 prize is won.

Similarity to South Africa's Daily Lotto

For those in South Africa, the Florida Fantasy 5 game might feel very familiar, as both games use the exact same ball matrix.

In both games, five numbers are picked from a possible 36, and if nobody wins the Division 1 prize, the funds are rolled down and shared between winners in the next Division.

The main difference is that in Daily Lotto, the entire Division 1 pool (if there are no winners) will be shared between winners in Division 2, with no limit. In Fantasy 5, prizes are boosted to a limit of $555, however in Daily Lotto prizes will be boosted with the entirety of the Division 1 pool.

If you’re betting on Fantasy 5 from South Africa, the roll down feature is not available, as you are betting on the outcome of the winning numbers, rather than buying a ticket.
