Must Be Won Lotto Draws

From time to time, the UK lottery operator schedules special 'Must Be Won' (MBW) draws that come with a boosted guaranteed jackpots. These jackpots usually range from £15-£20 million for any player that can match all six main numbers. If no players match all six numbers in a designated Must Be Won draw, the entire prize fund will roll down and get shared between the winners at all lower divisions, not just the next winning division!

The more common way for a Must Be Won draw to take place, however, is when the jackpot naturally rolls over five consecutive times. When this happens, the subsequent (sixth) draw is designated as a Must Be Won draw. If, in the final draw no players match all six numbers, the Division 1 prize rolls down and boosts all lower prizes in the same way as mentioned previously. This mechanism can significantly boost the prize amounts that players can win, and has become hugely popular since it were introduced to the game in 2018.

Players that match two numbers in regular draws win a free Lucky Dip/Quick Pick ticket for a future draw. When a jackpot rolldown occurs, players matching two numbers still receive a free ticket, in addition to a guaranteed £5 prize.

Take a look at how much of the Division 1 jackpot pool is allocated to each of the lower divisions in instances where the jackpot does roll down. These percentages are in addition to the regular draw prize amounts already allocated. You can also find the payouts from the most recent Must Be Won draw.

Cold Numbers

Appearing the least often, the UK Lotto Cold Numbers are those that are most 'overdue' to be drawn. It is possible for a Hot Number to also be a Cold Number that just hasn't been drawn for a while.

As lotteries are a game of chance, there is no way for any number to truly be 'overdue', as previous draws have no effect on the outcome of any future draw.

How to Win the UK Lotto

Whether you’ve purchased a Lotto ticket in the UK, or you’ve bet on the game internationally through LotteryWorld, the way that you play and win a prize is the same.

You must pick six numbers from 1-59 and this can either be done manually or by opting for a Lucky Dip (Quick Pick). To win the division 1 jackpot, you’ll need to match all six main numbers drawn.

A Bonus Ball number is also drawn after the six main numbers, offering those that have matched five main numbers one last chance to boost their winnings. The Bonus Ball only affects those that have matched five numbers, and does not have any effect on winners in lower divisions.

There are six prize divisions in Lotto, offering prizes that range from a free Quick Pick ticket up to the Jackpot! Take a look at what you can win here:

How Lotto Works

The UK Lotto works in a similar way to other traditional draw-style lottery games. Every Wednesday and Saturday night, ticket sales close at 7:30pm across the country. All entries are then submitted to the lottery operator in time for the draw starting.

A live draw is then broadcast on YouTube for players to view at any time. Winning numbers are then published here at LottoDraw.com within seconds of the draw, with the prize payout amounts being confirmed around one hour later.

If the Division 1 jackpot gets won, the jackpot resets to its base amount for the next draw (approx. £2 million for Wednesdays and £3.7 million for Saturdays). If the jackpot is not won, however, it will then roll over to the following draw. This can happen five consecutive times before a Must Be Won draw is triggered.

Players matching two main numbers in any draw automatically win a free Quick Pick ticket for a future draw. If you play in store, you can simply redeem your ticket at any time within 180 days of the draw taking place and decide whether you would like your ticket for the next Wednesday draw or the next Saturday draw. If you’ve played or bet online, your free ticket will automatically be generated for the next available draw.
